I've been trying to write this product review for the last couple of weeks, however the lovely Welsh weather had other ideas. I love to dedicate days to doing product testing/reviews and with the apprentice spending the weeks prior to this trying his hardest to get his car filthy for a wheel cleaning video, it gave me the perfect opportunity to put the Shiny Garage products to the test.

Shiny Garage products are available from our good friend Jake over at The Motor Spa, He has a great selection of products and accessories available which have all been tried and tested by Jake before adding them to the site, a few people might remember how happy we were to find The Motor Spa stocked Demon tape which has quickly become our favourite masking tape brand.

The products we have to review are;

- Citrus Oil TFR Pre Wash ( Sample / £10.95 1 Litre)

- Orange Shampoo (£7.95 500ml)

- Ceramic Detailer (£12.95)

The Polo is quite old and has a few paint issues here and there, so I was interested to see how the Sample of Citrus Oil would do on the paint, I am probably unnecessarily weary when it comes to TFR products. Shiny Garage state that depending on the grime level to dilute 25ml to 50ml per 1 litre of water.

With the sample product it states to add the contents of the packet (50ml) to 1L of warm water in to a spray trigger bottle, apply to vehicle and leave to dwell for 3-4 minutes and then rinse. With the Polo being a fairly small car, I was able to give the vehicle a thorough coating of the pre-wash and still had a fair amount of product left over. After rinsing the Polo I was pleasantly surprised with the amount that had been lifted, it had made light work of the road grime and removed a considerable amount from the paint, which makes it not only a product that has a great dilution rate but one that is a perfect starting point for those safe contact washes.

Once the polo had a thorough coating in Snow Foam and rinsed with the pressure washer, it was time to test out the Orange Shampoo. I think its fair to mention here, that a batch of these shampoos did have an issue however this is rectified with thoroughly shaking the product, which I think most people are always in the habit of doing anyway! The orange shampoo is PH neutral which makes it perfect for cars with protection from wax to ceramic coatings along with it having a fantastic scent!

It is recommended 5 caps of product (10ml each) to your bucket, which I think is massively overkill. I decided to go for 20ml of product instead, with a blast of water from the pressure washer there was a great amount of suds formed in the bucket. When trying a new shampoo my main concern is the slickness of the product on the car, the suds were easily transferable from the bucket and you can feel the slickness between your wash mitt and the vehicles surface, which is one of the more important aspects when completing a safe contact wash.

Once the contact wash was completed, the Polo was looking fantastic and thoroughly clean. The Shiny Garage products had created a very easy maintenance wash on a car that had easily gone a month or more without being cleaned.

With the vehicle fully dried, it was time to test out the Ceramic Detailer, Shiny Garage state that the Si02 polymers in their Quick Detailer give you an incredible level of gloss, slickness and some light protection along with being able to remove fresh water marks on the paints surface.

Applying 1-2 sprays per panel, spreading with a microfibre cloth and then buffing with a fresh microfibre cloth, it was fairly easy to see the increase in gloss. The Polo is a perfect test subject for these kind of products as anything that adds gloss does help to hide some of the paints issues. The product is super easy to use and requires very little effort when buffing, and is a fantastic product to finish the car off. I was very interested to see if there was any kind of added protection so I decided to use the Ceramic Detailer on another vehicle that also has no protection and was pleased to see that there was some added protection to the paints surface when the usual welsh weather decided to give us a down pour of rain.

So my overall thoughts on these products...

Shiny Garage offer a fantastic range of products at great price points, I honestly think they are overlooked by many and do not get the credit they deserve and I could only really find a few down sides which I think is down to more of a personal preference than anything (not a fan of watermelon scent 🤮).

- Trigger on the Ceramic Detailer, firstly if you don't know they have two spray settings, you will end up twisting it to the one that sucks for misting the panel, I had this issue for the first couple of panels on the Polo and was quite frustrated until I figured out there is another spray setting. This is more of my own personal opinion but I don't particularly like this style of trigger, so switching into a bottle with a trigger I regularly use was far better for me when using the product.

- 50ml dilution rate for the shampoo, I think this is massively overkill and even at 20ml there was more than enough suds and product transfer from the bucket to the paint. I think this may cause issues as sometimes more product doesn't alway end up being a good thing.

If you are looking for another brand to try, I would highly recommend picking up some products from Shiny Garage and giving them a try for yourself! I am looking to try some more of their product line in the future, but my favourite product out of the three would have to be the Ceramic Detailer, especially after seeing it work its magic on paint with no protection at all. When you add that to their price points and the dilution rates for some of their products, you really are getting a lot of product for your money, and products that actually work!

I have added some photos from the product testing below, along with a video we created for our tiktok!
